Stock pumper's Manual

Stock Pumper's Manual

I’ve personally not shorted a stock at this point, but I do sometimes buy PUTs or enter into bearish option strategies (which I guess, technically, is similar to shorting). I do, however, believe that retail-pumpers cost retail-longs a lot more than retail-bashers ever will.

How to recognize Stock Pumpers on Message boards, newsgroups and in chat rooms A counter discussion to the “Paid Basher’s Manual” found on http://www.novakcapital.com/bashers.htm

LEARNING is a process and an evolution. Learning is not all fluff. Learning is a process of awareness and unfolding development; one must be willing to work at it though.

A year ago when I asked broker friends of mine if the internet message boards will have any affect on a stock. They ALL laughed at me and said those idiots having an affect on a stock!

A truth: IT IS EASIER TO SCARE PEOPLE INTO SELLING THAN IT IS TO INFORM PEOPLE INTO BUYING A STOCK. But once they’ve committed their money to a stock, it is much easier to keep them holding on to a losing position than it is to scare them away. Its human nature to hate to lose, and if you sell a stock at a loss, you are admitting that you made a mistake when you bought it..

Well I asked those same friends this last week, and the answer from all YES! message boards and ""shorts & longs" (some) can manipulate with lies, and deceit.

Now think about that, you have elderly that invest and find their way to the message boards only to see false posts about “the next big move”, claims of insider information, or justification for a future by out. Or you have a Yuppie with a kid to put in college going to these message boards only to see posts by 15-20 (probably 5 or 6 under alias) "pack of pumpers", or even 1 main “shepherd” leading his flock of “sheep”… all are posting the same false information about the news that is about to be released. What do you think they will do ?

Or

It's easier to sit on (or hold) a stock than it is to admit that one has made a mistake when they purchased it in the first place – especially at a loss! THAT'S WHO THE PACK OF PUMPERS PRAY ON AND DEPEND ON. They want the stock to go up, but don’t believe that it can under its own power! Understand? And they have just as much money and risk as you. But they have the edge of fear, lies, falsehoods to post and to keep others holding their positions which they hope will minimize the drop in the stock price.

Lesson 1: Remember, PUMPERS NEVER PUMP A GOOD STOCK. Watch the board for stocks with strong potential. They never have any pumpers. Pumpers only go after stocks that are going downwards or have excellent potential to go down. Pumpers get left behind, so they want to bring the price up.

Lesson 2: PUMPERS BRING UP OLD NEWS THAT YOU HAVE HEARD MANY TIMES. All companies always have a few bits of good and bad news. The pumper will post the good news over and over again. The stupid pumper will try to make the old news a bit fresher to try to fool you.

Lesson 3: PUMPERS POST MANY TIMES A DAY IF THE STOCK PRICE GOES UP, BUT MAY GO SILENT ON DAYS WHEN THE PRICE PULLS BACK. Pumpers can answer every question except those that involve facts that are contrary to their position. There is no negative comment they won't bash. They try to control the board. When all else fails pumpers resort to personal attacks against those who don’t support a stock.

Lesson 4: PUMPERS WILL LIE TO YOUR FACE. Never trust a pumper. The truth on all companies is that mistakes are made and losses happen, and things go right and profits happen. The pumper will try to make you believe that the company they are pumping can only make minor errors... THIS IS NOT TRUE. THE PUMPERS LIE TO YOU. Companies with falling stock prices are frequently making more than minor errors, this is the nature of the beast.

Lesson 5: The pumpers know YOU CAN'T VERIFY THEIR STATEMENTS. That's why they make the statements they do.

Lesson 6: The pumpers PLAY ON YOUR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. They can lie about information and you couldn't know the difference (unless you have done your assessment of the company and know the truth and facts).

Lesson 7: Pumpers play on your patience. YOU have held a microcap stock for a while. You knew it will be a madcap stock someday, but the PUMPER CAN GET TO YOU BECAUSE YOUR HUMAN NATURE WANTS TO KEEP YOU FROM ADMITTING THAT YOU ARE HOLDING A LOSING POSITION. That's when the pumper is best. You are proud. You have forgotten the commitment was to keep your losses small and your profit big. The pumper is bothersome, so you hold it through bad day after bad day. Some others buy, and the stock goes up a little bit. Then you feel justified for holding and return to let everyone know how glad you are for holding. Then you turn into a pumper as well. THE PUMPER HAS WON, AND GAINED A NEW PARTNER TOO!

Lesson 8: HOLD THE PRICE UP. That is the pumper’s job. The truth is not important. Lies are the norm. Post continuously on the board every day. They are trying to hit the newbies visiting the board. They are trying to wear out the critical discussions on the board. They do whatever it takes to wear the shorts out.

Lesson 9: PUMPERS WILL TRY TO CREATE DOUBT AND GET YOU TO RESEARCH ITEMS THAT THEY KNOW WILL LEAD TO THE CREATION OF DOUBT IN YOU AND IN OTHER STOCKHOLDERS. A typical trick of an advanced pumper is to propose that there is a potential news release coming, but because "we" don't have the facts on a particular subject we don’t know the unshared details. The pumper dares someone in the group to find out the answer to the question. The pumper already knows the answer; the pumper already knows what will be found. The power of this tactic is that the pumper is now in control of the actions of the stockholders; the pumper has you, the stockholder doing HIS/HER due diligence and when you, the stockholder come back to the group with a questionable finding then the pumper gains credibility. What to do??? Solution??? Well, I think it's important to find answers but on your own terms. I actually pick up the phone and call the company and talk to the investor relations person or the CEO until I get a satisfactory answer. The problem here is that the advanced pumper has you doing his bidding and his work; you have essentially joined his ranks. So, develop your own little Due Diligence package and answer questions by placing the information into the package and referring all new investors to read the answers to questions raised in the Investor Information package but DON'T GET INTO A CONVERSATION WITH THE PUMPER REGARDING THE TOPIC. THAT IS WHERE YOU LOSE. DON'T CONVERSE WITH THE PUMPER; ANSWER INDIRECTLY; DON'T USE THE PUMPER’S NAME; DON'T GET INTO A PERSONALITY CONTEST.

A PUMPER’S HANDBOOK: know the enemy who wishes gain at your expense! Do not underestimate a pumpers influence on a stock. The Pro's are good at what they do and what they do is profit from your losses. Below is their "hand-book" so to speak. Learn from it or donate your money to those who make an organized plan to profit at your expense!

PUMPERS DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Be anonymous
2. Use 10% fact. 90% suggestion. The facts will lend credibility to your suggestions.
3. Let others help you learn about the stock. Build rapport and a support base before initiating your pumping routine.
4. Enter w/ humor and reply to all who reply to you.
5. Use multiple ISP's, handles and aliases.
6. Use two (2) or more aliases to simulate a discussion.
7. Do not start with an all out pump of the stock. Build to it.
8. Identify your foes (bashers) and the boards "guru" Use them to your advantage. Lead them do not follow their lead. Ideally, you will become the board’s guru.
9. Only pump until the tide/momentum turns. Let doubt carry it the rest of the way.
10. Give the appearance of being open minded.
11. Be bold in your statements. People follow strength.
12. Write headlines in with catchy statements.
13. Pour it on as your position gains momentum. Not your personality.
14. Don't worry about being labeled a "pumper". Newbies won't know your history, and you are supporting their choice to purchase the stock in the first place.
15. When identified put up a brief fight, then back off. Return later unless your foe is a weak in reasoning powers.
16. Your goal is to limit the momentum of the drop. Not to make the company blast off; be subtle and consistent.
17. Kill the fears of losses, promote the company and the stock.
18. Use questions to create critical thinking. Statements to reinforce facts.
THAT CAN BE PROVEN, NAME CALLING AND PROFANITY AGAINST SHORTS IS ENCOURAGED.
20. Tell people that you have called the company. They'll take your word for claims made. If they do call to verify you can always find something that is missing from their response.
21. Encourage people to take the companies word for everything. Encourage them to call the company. They won't out of laziness.
22. If the companies history/PR's are positive constantly point to that. Compile a list of this data prior to beginning your efforts.
23. If the price falls blame it on temporary outside influences, temporary mass reaction, the market, etc. Anything but the stock / company itself.
24. If other posters share your thoughts, play on that and share theirs too.
25. Always cite high volume, even when it's not.
26. Three or four aliases can dominate a board.
27. Bait the bashers with personal attacks putting their focus/efforts on you and not the stock or facts. Divert their attention from facts. Show them the facts from a "different angle."
28. Bash other stocks that would-be investors can turn to instead of the one you’re pumping.
30. Do not fall for challenges on the "values" of what you are doing, it's a game and you are playing it with your own rules.

GRADE YOUR FAVORITE PUMPER:

Advanced Pumper:
Will join the message board early and actually "bash" the stock with negatives; this pumper is very intelligent, has the facts of the company, actually helps shorts with Due Diligence and generally gets the confidence of the bears. Then, when the stock hits their price, the tone will change and they will start asking longs to check into this and check into that. The seeds of doubt are being planted. This pumper will then start using all the tactics listed on this page to create seeds of doubt. ALWAYS LOOK AT THE PROFILE OF A PERSON YOU SUSPECT. ASK WHAT STOCKS THEY'VE "SUPPORTED" IN THE PAST AND CHECK OUT THE MESSAGE BOARD. An honest person will have a positive track record that can be followed. I strongly believe that a contrary view is needed but this person is out to profit at your expense\ and does it by deception and creates hope after gaining confidence! BEWARE, this is the most clever pumper and the hardest to spot.

Grade A Pumper:
Posts lots of old news, responds to all negative posts with a positive side. Never responds to being called a pumper, never posts on another board. Can spend up to hours each week pumping a stock.

Grade B Pumper:
Very good way with words, always claims to be your "friend" taking the negative poster into confidence, never posts on another board; spends hours each week.

Grade C Pumper:
Spends less time than the others but is somewhat effective and gets a C grade due to getting excited when pumper’s rules say not to get excited; spends several hours each week.

Grade D Pumper:
Needs to learn the basics about being convincing when making a positive statement. Spends a good amount of time working the stock.

Grade D Pumper: A complete idiot, most readers are not convinced he knows anything about stocks in general. The type that says a stock "rocks", but gives no rationale, shows up every so often but no regular schedule.

WHY PUMP?: MONEY (the usual reason), SPORT, ENTERTAINMENT. Some pumpers are compelled to pump because they simply need to justify their investment choice to themselves, so they must do it. It's a sad fact but never the less, a fact. It's life so you must learn how to deal with it or become a victim!

LEARN ABOUT HOW STOCK PUMPERS WORK: Very few pumpers are paid… just like there are very few bashers who are paid. There are just too many people out there doing the work for free for a fund to justify the extra expense.

NEVER ENGAGE A STOCK PUMPER; if you do so then YOU BECOME THE PUMPER'S AID!

Read the news, do your own homework and make your own decisions. Get real time quotes and follow the stock for a couple of weeks. Due Diligence is key here. Know that there will be a time when the stock runs up which will be followed by the Bashers and those that missed the boat. The pumpers will praise the stock by saying such things as "it’s a minor setback" and "the SEC is lying" and deceiving. There goal is to encourage longs to hold and potential new investors to buy, by falsely supporting the company. Take the time to confirm your Due Diligence, ,trust your own judgment and believe in yourself, pick your point of return or loss and live with it. Don't listen to pumpers or bashers and live by the rules you have created.

Justin Bieber - Baby ft. Ludacris

The Justin Bieber Biography
Justin Bieber Biography – Introduction
The Justin Bieber biography consists of the written accounts of the well – renowned Canadian pop rhythm and blues singer. According to the Justin Bieber biography, Justin Drew Bieber in real life was born on the first day of March 1994 to Jeremy Bieber and Pattie Malette in London, Ontario. As he was growing, we learned from Justin Bieber biography that he started to love music by playing different kinds of musical instruments like the piano, guitar, drums and the trumpet. During the early days of the year 2007, at twelve, Bieber rendered a version of Neyo’s popular song called So Sick and come up second in a local singing competition. As stated in the Justin Bieber biography, his mother posted his song rendition in the YouTube to be accessible to friends and relatives who were not able to see him perform live. She uploaded more videos of Bieber’s renditions of different rhythm and blues songs and from then on, Bieber became famous for his performance on the website.

The discovery of Justin Bibber’s road to stardom was quite unexpected as reported on the Justin Bieber biography. A So So Def previous marketing executive named Scooter Braun encountered Bieber while he was going through videos of a particular artist in the YouTube. Impressed with what he saw, he traced Justin Bieber through his mother. When they met in Atlanta, Georgia, Bieber started rendering songs for the famous songwriter Usher and eventually signed a contract with Raymond Braun Media Group which is both owned by Usher and Braun. These occurrences are clearly stated in the Justin Bieber biography. The company then made arrangements with the recording company Island Def Jam Music Group to let Bieber perform in auditions. Ultimately, they acquired a record deal in October of 2008. Scooter Braun then became Justin Bieber’s manager. Information from the Justin Bieber biography stated that although he was raised in Stratford, Ontario, Justin Bieber now has moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother. He lives in a district located uptown within the city called Buckhead. This is a suburban location oftentimes is referred to as the Beverly Hills of the South as jotted in the Justin Bieber biography.

Justin Bieber Biography - Songs Released
In the narration of Justin Bieber biography, his single entitled One Time was played out in the radio stations making it to the top 12 in its July 2009 release on the Canadian Hot 100. Then it reached to top 17 on Billboard Hot 100. Later in 2009, One Time became platinum in North America and became a gold record in the Australian continent. His debut album called My World reached platinum and silver in America and United Kingdom, respectively. According to the Justin Bieber biography, the singer endorsed his album by showing off actual performances in shows like MTV, The Ellen DeGeneres show, Good Morning America show, Chelsea Lately and other prominent television programs. He also made an appearance in True Jackson once in 2009. In the chronicles of the Justin Bieber biography, during the holiday season of 2009, Justin Bieber made quite an impression in the White House in front of the President and his better half by singing his own version of Someday at Christmas originally performed by Stevie Wonder. Through the Justin Bieber biography, he was known to have multitude of appearances, for instance, he was made a presenter in the 52nd Grammy Awards which was held early this year. Another famous song entitled Baby featuring Ludacris which is part of his inaugural album was considered a huge success making it to top five in the American billboards and one among the ten favorite songs in about seven nations. Facts from Justin Bieber biography stated that there were also other singles such as Never Let You Go and U Smile that made it to the top in Billboard 200 of America. Bieber is by far known as the protégée of Stevie Wonder who topped the chart at a young age and this is specified in the Justin Bieber biography.

Justin Bieber biography commented that he started his promotional tour called the My World Tour on the 23rd of June this year. The tour has a head start in Hartford, Connecticut as accounted on the Justin Bieber biography. He is the most sought after personality. Supported by the Justin Bieber biography, not only does he an excellent performer in the world of music, but he is also a famous teen actor. He is seen in episodes of the prominent television drama of the CBS network called CSI: Crime Scene Investigation which is out on air last September 23. As reported on Justin Bieber biography, he is also scheduled to act in a three-dimensional motion picture which will be released on February of 2011.

It was also stated in the Justin Bieber biography that his prominence has caused repercussions in terms of safety. There was an incident where his live performance had to be cancelled because the crowd went wild and became uncontrollable. Some avid fans of Bieber were slightly injured. It was also stated in the Justin Bieber biography that on that incident the manager of Bieber, Scooter Braun was imprisoned for reasons of irresponsible menace and reprehensible vexation. He was later released though. There was also another incident in Australia where the law enforcers had to revoke a concert after a stampede hurt avid fans of the performer. Justin Bieber also has been a scapegoat for harsh criticisms as noted in the Justin Bieber biography in terms of his looks, music, iconic image, constancy in the limelight and most especially his mannerisms which could be associated with femininity in nature. As was notable in the Justin Bieber biography, mischief and absurdities are most popular in the Internet to destroy such a prominent figure in the world of entertainment. There was even a time as narrated by Justin Bieber biography that there were reports in adult websites that Bieber died in a car mishap, and in another time it was disseminated that his mother was offered to pose nude on a magazine in exchange for a huge amount of money.

Justin Bieber Biography – An Epitome Of Youth And Tallent
Justin Bieber biography inputs would tell us that Justin Bieber’s rise to fame is amazingly fast. He h has been provided with mentors to assist him on how to manage his well-renowned reputation and prominence. Girls his age would swoon over to this iconic pop artist who is according to the Tiger Beat teen magazine, an epitome of youth and talent. The so-called Justin Bieber biography is the living witness of everything about this popular artist.

Lady Gaga - Born This Way

When Lady Gaga was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit.

It’s no wonder that little girl from a good Italian New York family, turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics that she is today: Lady Gaga.

“I was always an entertainer. I was a ham as a little girl and I’m a ham today,” says Lady Gaga, 23, who made a name for herself on the Lower East Side club scene with the infectious dance-pop party song “Beautiful Dirty Rich,” and wild, theatrical, and often tongue-in-cheek “shock art” performances where Gaga – who designs and makes many of her stage outfits -- would strip down to her hand-crafted hot pants and bikini top, light cans of hairspray on fire, and strike a pose as a disco ball lowered from the ceiling to the orchestral sounds of A Clockwork Orange.

“I always loved rock and pop and theater. When I discovered Queen and David Bowie is when it really came together for me and I realized I could do all three,” says Gaga, who nicked her name from Queen’s song “Radio Gaga” and who cites rock star girlfriends, Peggy Bundy, and Donatella Versace as her fashion icons. “I look at those artists as icons in art. It’s not just about the music. It’s about the performance, the attitude, the look; it’s everything. And, that is where I live as an artist and that is what I want to accomplish.”

That goal might seem lofty, but consider the artist: Gaga is the girl who at age 4 learned piano by ear. By age 13, she had written her first piano ballad. At 14, she played open mike nights at clubs such as New York’s the Bitter End by night and was teased for her quirky, eccentric style by her Convent of the Sacred Heart School (the Manhattan private school Nicky and Paris Hilton attended) classmates by day. At age 17, she became was one of 20 kids in the world to get early admission to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Signed by her 20th birthday and writing songs for other artists (such as the Pussycat Dolls, and has been asked to write for a series of Interscope artists) before her debut album was even released, Lady Gaga has earned the right to reach for the sky.

“My goal as an artist is to funnel a pop record to a world in a very interesting way,” says Gaga, who wrote all of her lyrics, all of her melodies, and played most of the synth work on her album, The Fame (Streamline/KonLive/Interscope). “I almost want to trick people into hanging with something that is really cool with a pop song. It’s almost like the spoonful of sugar and I’m the medicine.”

On The Fame, it’s as if Gaga took two parts dance-pop, one part electro-pop, and one part rock with a splash of disco and burlesque and generously poured it into the figurative martini glasses of the world in an effort to get everyone drunk with her Fame. “The Fame is about how anyone can feel famous,” she explains. “Pop culture is art. It doesn’t make you cool to hate pop culture, so I embraced it and you hear it all over The Fame. But, it’s a sharable fame. I want to invite you all to the party. I want people to feel a part of this lifestyle.”

The CD’s opener and first single, “Just Dance,” gets the dance floor rocking with it’s “fun, L.A., celebratory vibe.” As for the equally catchy, “Boys Boys Boys,” Gaga doesn’t mind wearing her influences on her sleeve. “I wanted to write the female version of Motley Crue’s ‘Girls Girls Girls,’ but with my own twist. I wanted to write a pop song that rockers would like.”

“Beautiful Dirty Rich” sums up her time of self-discovery, living in the Lower East Side and dabbling in drugs and the party scene. “That time, and that song, was just me trying to figure things out,” says Gaga. “Once I grabbed the reigns of my artistry, I fell in love with that more than I did with the party life.” On first listen, “Paparazzi” might come off as a love song to cameras, and in all honestly, Gaga jokes “on one level it IS about wooing the paparazzi and wanting fame. But, it’s not to be taken completely seriously. It’s about everyone’s obsession with that idea. But, it’s also about wanting a guy to love you and the struggle of whether you can have success or love or both.”

Gaga shows her passion for love songs on such softer tracks as the Queen-influenced “Brown Eyes” and the sweet kiss-off break-up song “Nothing I can Say (eh eh).” “‘Brown Eyes’ is the most vulnerable song on the album,” she explains. “‘Eh Eh’ is my simple pop song about finding someone new and breaking up with the old boyfriend.”

For the new tour for this album, fans will be treated to a more polished version of what they saw (and loved) at her critically acclaimed Lollapalooza show in August 2007 and Winter Music Conference performance in March 2008. “This new show is the couture version of my handmade downtown performance of the past few years. It’s more fine-tuned, but some of my favorite elements to my past shows – the disco balls, hot pants, sequin, and stilettos – will still be there. Just more fierce and more of a conceptual show with a vision for pop performance art.”

It’s been a while since a new pop artist has made her way in the music industry the old-fashioned/grass roots way by paying her dues with seedy club gigs and self-promotion. This is one rising pop star who hasn’t been plucked from a model casting call, born into a famous family, won a reality TV singing contest, or emerged from a teen cable TV sitcom. “I did this the way you are supposed to. I played every club in New York City and I bombed in every club and then killed it in every club and I found myself as an artist. I learned how to survive as an artist, get real, and how to fail and then figure out who I was as singer and performer. And, I worked hard.”

Gaga adds with a wink in her eye, “And, now, I’m just trying to change the world one sequin at a time.”

Sociedad Tabú - Pantallas (Video Clip Oficial)

De ti

Pantallas

Calor Urbano - Pa' Que No Pienses

Calor Urbano is a band from the Dominican Republic that was formed in late 2002 when its members decided to make a mixture of the different musical styles that influenced them.

After some months of work, the band, with little more than a dozen songs, produced what later became their first single, Calor Urbano, recorded with the production and engineering of Mike Rodríguez and José Bordas, recognized producers who have worked with well-known musicians and groups of the Dominican Republic. The single was sent to national radio stations in 2003. It became a quick hit, reaching the top of music charts and receiving good reviews by recognized members of the musical scene.

In the first semester of 2003 Calor Urbano began a process of organization and restructuring. Towards the end of the same year the band released the second promotional single Vertigo and in mid-2004 they took over listings with their third single To Soul, placing Calor Urbano among the top bands of the Dominican Republic by releasing three consecutive singles in one year, all three of which became very popular. The same year, they were nominated as best pop/rock band of the year in the Premios del Pueblo awards.

In 2005 Calor Urbano signed their first record deal with Azares Entertainment, a Dominican record company, and released their first official album, Transmission Groove, in the summer of 2006. The band, which is currently formed by Vicente Garcia as lead vocalist, Adolfo Guerrero as M.C, Joel Berrido on the bass guitar and Carlos Chapuseaux playing lead guitars, as well as many other musicians who accompany them on live performances, tries to mix soul, funk and hip-hop as well as Latin pop influences, creating a unique musical style.

A Contraluz

Toque Profundo, sometimes referred to as Toque, or TP, is a rock group from the Dominican Republic, the most successful of the local Dominican bands to date in the late 80s and 90s. Most of the songs were related to their native country, and some songs, like "El Jevito" and "Mi País", involved social criticism and issues within Dominican culture.

It all started in 1989 when Toque Profundo participated in the popular event "Las Olimpiadas del Rock" (English: Rock Olympics). The original lineup was: Tony Almont (vocals), Leo Susana (guitars), Osvaldo Peña (bass), Lorenzo Zayas-Bazan (keyboards) and Maximo Gomez (drums). They were the best out of 15 participating bands in the event, edging out favorites "Arcangel" by a very small margin in a legendary duel. The band slowly gained experience and acceptance from the small Dominican rock listeners in Santo Domingo.

In 1992 they released the 1st independent album named "Sueños y Pesadillas Del 3er Mundo" (Dreams and Nightmares of The 3rd World). This was the first CD ever at that time to be released independently by their own financial means.

The CD immediately became a classic and best seller in Dominican rock history. Songs like "El Bolero Del Biónico", "Amigo", and "Mandela" were hits on local Dominican radio stations shortly after the album’s release.

That same year they were nominated as "Best Rock Group" in the Cassandra Awards, a similar Dominican version of the Grammy Awards. They also were involved in the international event "Rock Sobre Las Piedras" which took place at Altos de Chavón.

Towards 1993 the young group was chosen by Dominicans to represent them in the international event "Festival De Benidorm" in Spain with the song "Dios Salve Al Viajero"(God Save The Traveler). In 1996 they released their 2nd independent album named "Moneda" (Spanish for ‘coins’, also refers to money). Bigger success resulted from this second album. Songs Like "Llorar", the long-awaited "Dios Salve Al Viajero" and "Ramona"(a playful take on Eric Clapton’s classic unplugged rendition of “Layla”), all became top #1 hits on radio. This album is considered a classic within Dominican rock culture and, at the same time, sparked the “local rock bands” evolution.

In 1999 they released The 3rd Album "Cría Cuervos" (sort of like “Breed Crows”), which became their most successful album of their career at that date. Tracks like "Botas Negras", "Liberate", and "Noche Sin Luna" also became top #1 singles. "Noche Sin Luna" later became the longest-enduring song to remain in the top #1 list on Dominican radio. "Cría Cuervos", like the two preceding albums, was an independent album showing the musical growth of the band and their ever-growing fan base in their native country and in Latin America.

Further recordings led up to the release of their 4th album, titled "Magia", in 2002. International critical acclaim has often reputed it to be their best composed, best prepared album. This album was different from its predecessors in the fact that it expanded the musical aspect and explored the band’s maturity and potential to compose and record music. Influences from other cultures were included in this recording, which gave it the best rating among the four albums of their career. This album throws in dashes of punk, afro, alternative, and guitar-based fusions, completely breaking all barriers established on previously released albums. The singles "El Viaje" and "Angel Ciego" also manage to climb the top position on radio stations in the country for several weeks.

Current TimesIn mid 2003, rumors of possible disbanding of Toque Profundo were rampant but never became official. Due to the Dominican Republic's critical economic situation TP was forced to cease concerts, and each member found themselves trying to find ways to expand their musical horizons. Around this time some members formed several project bands, and guitarist Clemente Portillo left the country to the United States to promote TP's work in New York City These efforts included a showcase in Sirius Satellite Radio, an interview in Music Choice, and several concerts in upper Manhattan.

After that mini-tour, the band ceased to be the powerhouse rock band it once was, never releasing a new track and only playing their old material. Band members started their personal projects and only play together to sell the nostalgics of better times in Dominican rock history. The band is supposedly on a long hiatus, although it's not officially clear as to whether or not the band is declared defunct.

In December 2009, Toque Profundo celebrated their 20th year anniversary in Hard Rock Cafe Santo Domingo and a few weeks leter released a new single named "El Experimento" which quickly climbed up the charts of Dominican rock stations. El Experimento marked their first release of material after the last album Magia. Concerts were held in Santo Domingo and also in New York City.

Jurassic Park, Vacation In Paradise $24.00 per night

Jurassic Park is a magical place situated on a small hill, in a tranquil valley, 3-5 mins outside of the main town Las Terrenas. Six spacious, clean private bungalows, to rent, set amongst an abundance of natural beauty. A short stroll behind the Hotel
there are two waterfalls with pools - which are extremely inviting, especially when its hot, great for cooling off and helping to make you feel at peace with the world.

This is a hotel with a difference: in respect that we have semi controlled jungle areas which we continue to improve and make part of the attraction of being here. There is very little light pollution (no upward facing lights) so you can view the night sky, from our open pool terrace, which are mostly spectacular all year round. If you are a star gazer, a writer or a poet you would feel very much at home here. Our aim, for the near future, is to direct the Hotel towards self sufficiency and Eco tourism. We already have pure spring water and will be looking to add solar panels and wind mills. If you have children then this is a natural wonderland providing constant amazement. Indeed, daily visits from the local children, who are a breath of fresh air, will aid your children in understanding this environment. To top it off we have a trampoline which is very popular with children and uncontrollably happy adults alike. We also grow many fruits and vegetables and indeed as I write this the wife has popped out to our herb garden for some coriander. We are a small family run hotel and we hope to have created a much more personal and friendly feeling. We have a great track record of content, repeat customers. It seems that a return visit is a must, once you have been bitten by the magic and unadulterated beauty of our little oasis.
All the bungalows come with a fully equipped kitchen, a double bed (if required, another bed can be arranged), a bathroom with shower, and a terrace with views of the beautiful green tropical valley and the ocean.

JUAN PABLO DUARTE

Juan Pablo Duarte was born in Santo Domingo in the barrio Santa Barbara on the street Isabel la Catolica (his modest home is now a museum - more information on the Duarte museum) January 26, 1813. He is the son of Juan José Duarte, a Spanish retailer born in Spain, and Manuela Diez y Jiménez, a native of the El Ceibo region of Dominican Republic.

His family left Dominican Republic in 1801 when the Haitian troops, Toussaint L'Ouverture, took possession of the city. They fled to Puerto Rico, residing there until the Spanish regained control of part the country in the War of Reconquista in
1809.

Duarte excelled in his school work and was taught by one of the best professors of the University of Santo Domingo,: Doctor Juan Vicente Troncoso. Here he studied philosophy and Roman Rights. He was an excellent student and loved to study so much so that his family decided for him to excel they needed to take him to New York. It is not known how long he spent in New York but it is thought to be some time because of his mastery of languages. Then he was on to London and Paris and finally to Barcelona Spain where he had relatives. During his time abroad not much is known of his history.

In 1831 or 32 he returned to Santo Domingo and he worked in his fathers business. Juan Pablo, having such an outgoing personality, had a great social life and was soon became a well known personality and attended all the important functions of the time. He was also very patriotic and he strongly disliked the presence of Haitians in the country. Duarte was very patriotic and began organizing the historical movement as not to accept Haitian domination. His philosophy is between "Dominican and the Haitians a fusion is not possible". This impossibility did not come from racial differences but the cultural ways that the Dominican society was based on at that time, He based his ideas on the political doctrines of the time that he learned in Spain, romanticism, liberalism, the nationalism and the idealist socialism.

Duarte helped to organize a secret society, "La Trinitaria" on July 16, 1838, among whose first members were Juan Pablo Duarte, Juan Isidro Perez, Pedro Alexander Pina, Maria Ruiz, Jose Maria Serra, Benito González, Felipe Alfau and Juan Nepomuceno Ravelo, for which he took the responsibility to direct. This was the reformist movement in the city of Santo Domingo. The fighters for independence whose motto was "God, Mother Country and Freedom" ("Dios, Patria y Libertad").

When the revolution against Jean-Pierre Boyer, the Haitian president, who controlled the Eastern part of the island, began in 1843 and failed. Duarte and his companions were jailed and then had to go into hiding and finally were forced to leave the country. During these times it is thought that this is when the constitution of the Dominican Republic was penned by Duarte. The Manifiesto de Independencia was later refined by other members of the Trinitarios including Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, Ramón Matías Mella, Tomás Bobadilla

Again the following year on 27 February 1844, another attempt was made to take over the country from Haitian rule. This time it was successful. The country declared its independence again and took the name República Dominicana (Dominican Republic). A constitution modeled on that of the United States was put forth in November 1844. Dominicans celebrate February 27 as their independence day. Word was sent to Duarte, who was then staying in Venezuela to return to Santo Domingo to take part in the beginning of the government of the new republic.

On June 12, 1844 he was nominated by the Liberal party in Cibao to become president. His opponent, military director General Pedro Santana (who served for three terms between 1844 and 1861), was appointed to the same office in Santo Domingo City by the Reactionary party. Duarte lost and was banished, remaining in exile for many years. He only returned to the island once and this was during the War of Restoration (1864) against Spain. He took part in the struggle that ended in 1865, in the reestablishment of the republic. Duarte was sent on a mission abroad, and died in Caracas Venezuela, July 15, 1876 at the age of 63.

In 1883 the board of aldermen of Santo Domingo caused a life-size portrait of Duarte to be placed in the municipal hall, and in 1884 his remains were returned to Santo Domingo amidst great public ceremonies. He is now at rest in the Tomb of the Heros / Altar de la Patria in Independencia Park

Alih Jey

Born Alih Jey De Peña in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic twenty one years ago, this singer-songwriter, re-emerges in 2004 with her second studio album.

Alih Jey’s musical career began at the age of three in her native Dominican Republic when she toured with her family as part of the act La Familia Peña. As she grew into her teens, she ventured into TV where she co-hosted - alongside her older sister - the children’s show “Topi Topi de Fiesta. “ Even though she became a familiar face and ratings were good, Alih Jey knew her true calling was not in front of the cameras; rather it was behind a guitar, piano and microphone.

Alih Jey wrote her first song at the age of 14 as an answer to her high-school peers dealing with the fact that she was a TV star. Her father was so impressed that she continued writing; It’s Ok, the first single off of her debut album was the second song written. These songs, along with her devotion for music, and her parents’ faith in her talent, helped her get her big break when Jorge Taveras – an old family friend and famous producer in the DR - came to the Peña house one night looking for her sister and was greeted by Alih Jey, instead. Such was the impact on Taveras that two demo’s were made and sent to Universal Music Latin in Miami, where immediately she was signed.

Her family then packed up their belongings to move to Miami and pursue Alih Jey’s dream of becoming a recording artist. Her first album, Alih Jey, was received with much praise by critics and helped establish her as a driving force in the Latin music scene.

Alih Jey devoted her time to promote her album and then took a break to focus on school and life. During that time, she met Jodi Marr through Universal Music. It was this encounter that would proof fateful in the long run, as they began writing songs together, creating strong lyrics and beautiful melodies. Alih Jey was growing into a young, independent woman, and Jodi helped her channel all these emotions into new songs. So much was created that it gave them enough material to begin working on her second album.

Nowadays, Alih Jey is a force to be reckoned with, already composing songs for other artists.

As an artist, Alih Jey possesses a unique talent rarely found in our time; her incredible gift for songwriting and expressing her feelings in such an honest manner set her apart from her peers, and her overall capacity as a musician, dancer and performer make of Alih Jey one of a kind.

The Album

Two years after her official debut, Alih Jey is ready to launch her second work with Universal Music Latino. Influenced by The Pretenders and Blondie, the album is reminiscent of the classic rock era; evident in 10 of the 11 songs included. Even the two slow songs – Por Eso and Borrarte – have an early 80’s “power ballad” component to them, with powerful arrangements, deep, strong lyrics and heart-wrenching emotions.

The album was recorded in Miami with a live studio band and was produced by JMRS Productions, except for one song, produced by Randy Cantor. JMRS consists of Jodi Marr, Jon Merchant & Ritchie Supa, and is a relatively new group of young, up-and-coming producers, which Alih Jey was set on working with after she began writing with them on a few songs. As she describes it, Jodi and Jon helped her channel all the emotions into songs: “There is a lot of real feelings in those songs; things that really happened. They helped me pour my heart out into each one.” Alih Jey says this album is extra special to her because she was able to get involved in every step of the creative process, not only in the songwriting but also overseeing and contributing in the arrangements.

Each of the 11 songs - except for Mi Debilidad – was co-written by Alih Jey, thus, making it her most personal work to date. The album is a true portrayal of Alih Jey’s life during these past two years, reflecting the required ups-and-downs of a young woman coming to terms with life, love, career, personal relations and her own individuality. However, rather than focus on the negative, she masterfully turned every emotion into a positive anthem of hope, defiance and independence.

Muñequita Tuya – the first single - is the perfect example of this sentiment, rendering a strong message of independence and self-sufficiency to all young women. Other songs, such as Antes, Aquí Voy, and Tu Canción Feliz, with their upbeat rhythms, also depict these positive views, and although Por Eso and Borrarte (Poder No Es Querer) - probably the most personal song in the album – talk about broken hearts, there is till hope and optimism at the end. Te Lo Debo A Ti – a song originally written to a first love - became Alih Jey’s anthem to her parents and their relationship while Mi Debilidad – a song made famous by her father in the late 60’s – is Alih’s gift to her father.

Straying away from bubble-gum music, Alih Jey explores intense subject matters with songs like De Prisa, where a young couple is faced with the decision of letting go in pursue of their dreams. Vino En Tu Bar – the oldest song in the album, written by Alih Jey at the age of 16 – and Yo Lo Se deal with the hurt of unattainable love. The first is a passion-filled pop-ballad, full of intense metaphors and apparent obsession; the latter is a light-hearted look at a young couple playing with the possibility of a future, yet is afraid to take that step.

Unmistakably, each song is a true reflection of Alih Jey as an artist and as a person. With this album she has marked her territory as a bona fide artist, composer, and interpreter, which is here to stay.
